About This Site

Rivethi Falhagando Dive Site

Rivethi Falhagando — known as the Sea Fan Garden — sits on the eastern coast where towering gorgonian sea fans create an underwater forest along the reef wall. This easy drift dive glides divers past some of Fuvahmulah's most spectacular coral formations while thresher sharks tuck along the wall in the background.

The gorgonians here reach sizes rarely seen elsewhere in the Maldives — some fan colonies exceed 2 metres across. They thrive in the east-coast current that brings nutrients and clean water. The fans provide habitat for pygmy seahorses, basket stars, and other specialist species that make this a macro photographer's dream.

The drift format means you cover a lot of reef in a single dive. The current does the work — you float past the sea fan garden, watching the wall unfold. It's one of the most effortless and visually rewarding dives on the island.

Best Conditions

December–April for clean east-coast water and ideal drift conditions. The sea fans are present year-round. Best photography when morning light illuminates the wall.
