Why Dive in January
January is peak dry season in Fuvahmulah. The northeast monsoon brings calm conditions to the south and east coasts, where most dive sites are located. Visibility regularly exceeds 30 metres and water temperature holds at a comfortable 28-29°C.
This is one of the best months for multi-species encounters. Tiger sharks are present daily at Tiger Harbour (as they are every month). Hammerhead schools are active along the southern reef edges. Thresher sharks visit cleaning stations at dawn. The calm conditions mean even the more exposed sites like Farikede are accessible.
January is popular with international divers, so booking in advance is recommended. Dive centres are busy but not overcrowded, and the quality of diving is consistently excellent.
